How to become an exchange/Erasmus student?

  • Erasmus+ or bilateral agreements

The university has worked together with over 680 international entities from over 100 countries under direct bilateral cooperation agreements.

If you are interested in coming to the University of Warsaw within an agreement between our institutions, contact your home university first. It is mandatory that your home university has a cooperation agreement with us and if this agreement covers the possibility of an exchange. Once you are succefull in the selection process at your home institution, they will contact us and nominate you officially.

  • Governmental agreements and state programmes (CEEPUS, DAAD, Fulbright, Visegrad Fund)

If you are interested in a scholarship, you may check the information about open calls for application on the websites of institutions coordinating the exchange programmes, as well as on the site of the National Agency for Academic Exchange.

According to the procedre, you have to undergo a selection process at the scholarship provider first. If you are succesful, they will contact us and nominate you to study at UW.

  • There is no agreement between our institutions or you simply want to study at UW as a freemover?

You might be interested in our Visiting Student Programme and study for a semester or two on paid basis.

If you reached here, most probably you already know why Univeristy of Warsaw is a good choice for your exchange. But what can you study here? Well, that depends on the agreement your home university had signed with us. Based on that you will be assigned to your receiving unit – one of 25 faculties or over 30 academic units.

Please note that the map is a bit outdated: we are going through some changes, renovations and relocations. For example, all the units of the Faculty of Applied Linguistics are now on Dobra street in a brand new building, on Służew Campus we have only the Faculty of Management now. Your IRO contact person will inform you about your receiving faculty and will instruct you on where to find information about the building your courses are taking place in!

Don’t worry, though, because you will be allowed to choose courses from other UW units and also benefit from our additional study offer (language classes and sports). All our courses are available in an online course catalogue – Informator ECTS.

You can filter the results by faculty, language of instruction, year of study etc. One important thing to remember: at the moment not all our courses for next academic year may not be available in our online course catalogue – they are being added successively. When filtering, please do not indicate any academic year or choose courses from last year – most of the courses should stay in our offer. Later on the course catalogue will be surely updated. Also, when choosing the courses, you are not limited to a specific year’s curriculum – as an exchange student you are allowed to select any courses from UW offer.

Our maximum is 30 ECTS per semester. Minimum – at least one course, but we recommend to check your home university requirements. In special cases we can consider accepting more tokens, upon a permission of our Vice-Rector.

Our mandatory requirement is at least B2 level in English (or Polish). It is crucial for following the courses and taking exams. The only exception is when you come to study, for example, Spanish language, and all the courses you have chosen are in Spanish. Then we will ask you to provide us with a certificate of that language.

We accept all the officially recognised certificates: TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. If you have an official document from your home university, signed and stamped by its representative, we are willing to take that into consideration – as long as it clearly states your level expressed on a CEFR scale (A1-C2).

If you are not a holder of such certificate, you can use our Language Proficiency Form. It also has to be signed and stamped by the representative of your home univeristy.

At the University of Warsaw, academic year starts in the beginning of October and ends at the beginning of July.

It is divided into two semesters: winter (October-February) and summer (February-July).
