How to become an exchange/Erasmus student?
Nomination
- Erasmus+ or bilateral agreements
The university works with over 680 international entities from over 100 countries under direct bilateral cooperation agreements.
If you are interested in coming to the University of Warsaw within an agreement between our institutions, contact your home university first. It is mandatory that your home university has a cooperation agreement with us and if this agreement covers the possibility of an exchange. Once you are succefull in the selection process at your home institution, they will contact us and nominate you officially.
- Governmental agreements and state programmes (CEEPUS, DAAD, Fulbright, Visegrad Fund)
If you are interested in a scholarship, you may check the information about open calls for application on the websites of institutions coordinating the exchange programmes, as well as on the site of the National Agency for Academic Exchange.
According to the procedre, you have to undergo a selection process at the scholarship provider first. If you are succesful, they will contact us and nominate you to study at UW.
- There is no agreement between our institutions or you simply want to study at UW as a free-mover?
You might be interested in our Visiting Student Programme and study for a semester or two on paid basis.
What can I study at the Univeristy of Warsaw as a short-term student?
If you are on this website, most probably you already know why Univeristy of Warsaw is a good choice for your exchange. But what can you study here? Well, that depends on the agreement your home university had signed with us. Based on that you will be assigned to your receiving unit – one of 25 faculties or over 30 academic units. You will be also allowed to choose courses from other UW units and benefit from our additional study offer (language classes and sports).
All our courses are available in an online course catalogue – Informator ECTS. You can filter the results by faculty, language of instruction, year of study etc. One important thing to remember: at the moment not all our courses for next academic year may not be available in our online course catalogue – they are being added successively. In such a case, please take a look at the courses from the last year – most of them should stay in our offer. Later on the course catalogue will be surely updated. Also, when choosing the courses, you are not limited to a specific programme’s curriculum. Usually, the exchange students are not allowed to choose thesis seminars and PhD courses (with a code starting with 1500 or 1600).
Our maximum is 30 ECTS per semester. Minimum – at least one course, but we recommend to check your home university requirements. In special cases we can consider accepting more credits, upon a permission of UW authorities.
Language Skills
Our mandatory requirement is at least B2 level in English (or Polish). It is crucial for following the courses and taking exams. The only exception is when you come to study, for example, Spanish language, and all the courses you have chosen are in Spanish. Then we will ask you to provide us with a certificate of that language.
Please see the list of the certificates we accept as a proof of your language proficiency.
If you are not a holder of internationally recognised language certificate, you can use our Language Proficiency Form. It has to be signed and stamped by the representative of your home univeristy. This works for other languages as well.
