ITO Foundation for International Education Exchange

Host university: Japanese university of choice
Number of scholarships and length of stay: 1 one-year scholarship
Who can apply: graduate students
Period of stay: one year starting from winter semester 2025/2026
Eligible units/fields of study: all*
Eligibility for application:

  • Polish citizenship, status as a UW student for the entire duration of the stay in Japan, excellent academic performance, ability to speak Japanese is not mandatory but will be preferred;
  • admission to a Japanese university where the applicant will study. If the applicant has not yet been accepted at the time of application, make sure to fill in information regarding application deadlines on the application form.

Financial conditions:

Living stipend: 160,000 JPY per month, tuition: actual amount (not exceeding 2,000,000 JPY per year), outfit allowance: 250,000 JPY (deposited only once at the beginning of scholarship period), travel expenses: actual amount of the airfare for coming to Japan and returning to your home country(paid within the limit of the travel expenses calculated in each fiscal year).

Required documents:

  1. Consent Form, signed by Head of the Educational Unit (EUH) or Mobility Coordinator;
  2. Certificate of grade average from the entire period of study, issued by the Student’s Office at the unit (minimum 3,49);
  3. Motivation letter justifying the choice of the receiving institution and indicating the chosen unit at the host university;
  4. Curriculum Vitae including information on academic achievements, distinctions, awards etc.;
  5. Certificate/proof of the language skills: English – at least B2;
  6. Recommendation letter (in Polish and English).

Documents required by the scholarship provider: list and forms according to information available in the Guideline 2025:

  1. Application form 2025;
  2. Two ID Photos;
  3. Official academic transcript;
  4. One official recommendation letter;
  5. A study proposal;
  6. Admission to Japanese university.

Remarks:

  • *Those who are already studying, conducting research and working in Japan at the time of application are not eligible to apply.
  • The scholarship provider shall reserve the right to review the exchange enrolment request and make the final decision according to the internal regulations and the legal regulations imposed by the national and/or local authorities. Notification of selection shall be sent to the candidate’s home university in March 2025.
  • Students take care of the visa on their own in accordance with the procedures of the host country.
  • Students accepted by the receiving institution shall obtain approval for the study programme from the Mobility Coordinator at their home unit at UW. Learning Agreement shall be signed by the student and both institutions within 3 weeks from the beginning of the exchange.
  • Candidates may, at any time, be asked to show original documents providing achievements and received awards.
  • The documents in English required by the foreign intitution should be submitted by the nominated student to the IRO UW by 19.11.2024. Only originals will be accepted.
  • Additional information will be sent to nominated students.
  • Before departure, students accepted by the receiving institution are obliged to conclude an agreement with the University of Warsaw (at the International Relations Office).

Application deadline13 October 2024, until 23:59 Warsaw time zone. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Application (one e-mail containing all required documents shall be sent to the email address bwz.nabory.wymiana@uw.edu.pl from the candidate’s university email address (§3 Order of the Rector of UW no. 279 from 10th December 2020). Applications sent from other email addresses will not be considered.
